The Fairy-tale About Azrael and the Evil Tap's Hidden Commander Nerf

I often read posts of players complaining about chances. Especially Azrael is subject to frequent speculations about hidden changes of the success rate of his curse.

    Typical complaints:
    • Opposing Azraels curse much better than mine.
    • My Azrael cursed much more reliably in the past.
    • Tap generally nerfs older commander to push sales
    • ...

Can this be true? Well, I don't think so. Pragmatically seen there is no need to "nerf" certain commanders by changing skills and chances in the background. tap4fun has the freedom to flood us with newer and more powerful commanders as often as they want and completely legally. So why should they commit a crime by manipulating things.

I think we humans just have trouble being objective. Do opposing Azraels really curse better? Sure not, but we remember better the things that harm us than we are happy about own successes. Did Azrael curse better in the past? Another "surely not" but his curse has been much more harmful with lower reshape and had more devastating impact in pre-Raksha era.

For that I made a table of the chances for Azrael to curse his targets.

    2017-06-02 Azrael 70 Percent Chart.png

The green cells just mark the most likely outcome for a target count.

For more than 1 target the chance to curse ALL available targets is always below 50%. But for 3 targets you have a chance of nearly 80% to curse at least 2 targets.

And as long-term Azrael user I can confirm that those stats "feel" correct.

Wonderful! Now I see that you read my posts. Nice!

Come on after a 10 lose streak we sometimes need to let some steam out and who better to blame (well than of course Tap) the casino lottery commander in the setup? Before I would always blame Aquos (who btw and no shitting here did copy flagship 9/10 times ) but nowdays it's Azrael on the chopping block.

Good work N and keep reading my threads. They are always 100% quality.

One thing I can surely say is that during the monopoly event when Azrael was released he had 100% chance to curse the targets. It was obvious from the galaxy league fights where he always made it 1 of 1, 2 of 2, 3 of 3.
This only fact proves that Tap has also freedom to nerf any commander if they want to.

To prove it you need to collect battle stats with azrael in your and opponents formations.

I did this 2-3 months ago and it was around 70% for both cases. This analysis for such an impressive commander should be done regularly.

As long as Tap are an even more secret organization than CIA and NSA together players will always speculate and I think it's just healthy that we keep a critical mind. Tape would win a lot in transparency and communication with players community but they choose a different path.

Sure I do! And I enjoyed your FB post with your Azrael hitting 0/3 and opposing hitting 3/3 (or similar)!

I'm sure you did! Then maybe you also did see that I made a poodle after my Azrael making a 4/4 in a fight? Now I claim him to be my best commander!

But to be honest. Cars, electronics, everything get reviewed by consumer groups and different media and if anything is wrong they get outed and punished. Like one of your big car companies. But if Tap change anything in the coding no one can proove it. We just get that nagging feeling something is strange. But ok I get your point with your table. This time!

from my observations, usually when you meet an opponent lower in level and/or force, you tend to curse them at the rates which i also "feel" are the same as night owls. the percentages drop when you meet someone markedly higher in force or level.

I think this is a good sample of the areas where we have trouble to be objective/fair. Against weaker players it does not matter so much if curse happens or not. The sheer brute force of a better developed fleet is enough to win here. Against much stronger opponents you rely on the curse to have at least a chance to win. Every failed curse causes much more disappointment and moreover even if cursed successfully that can still mean a loss if opponent is just too strong.
